If all hope feels lost, take heart:
God heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds.
“He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds.” — Psalm 147:3 (KJV)
No matter how deep the pain, God sees you.
And when you call on Him in faith, He begins a work of healing that only He can do.
Living with a Broken Heart
I know what it feels like to live with a broken heart.
After years of abuse and deep emotional pain, I stopped allowing myself to feel. I buried grief, pushed down anguish, and learned to survive instead of heal.
Eventually, I expected heartbreak.
It felt inevitable—like it would always find me again.
After escaping an abusive relationship, I arrived at a shelter physically and emotionally exhausted.
Not long after, I entered another relationship and became pregnant with my son, Nathan.
I chose his name because it means “he gave.” And in many ways, he felt like a gift—something good in the middle of so much pain.
A Turning Point
When Nathan was about a year old, we traveled to California in search of a better life.
One evening, we went to a small city mission for a meal.
That night changed everything.
I walked forward and gave my life to Jesus Christ.
The Beginning of Healing
The next day, something felt different.
The world didn’t change—but I did.
There was a peace inside me I couldn’t explain. A calm presence that replaced the chaos I had carried for so long.
For the first time, healing had begun.
As I started learning the Word of God, my thinking began to change.
“Be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind…” — Romans 12:2
God wasn’t just comforting me—He was restoring me.
Learning Through the Journey
Healing didn’t mean my life suddenly became easy.
There were still struggles. Still mistakes. Still moments where I acted out of fear or anger instead of faith.
At one point, after moving and facing financial stress, I made decisions I later regretted—choices rooted in frustration rather than trust in God.
But even then, God didn’t leave me.
Instead, He continued to work in my life—teaching, correcting, and restoring.
Through it all, He gave me another gift: my daughter, Faith.
Her name became a daily reminder of what I needed to hold onto.
How God Heals a Broken Heart
God’s healing doesn’t always happen the way we expect.
Sometimes it comes through:
- quiet moments of peace
- lessons learned through hardship
- or blessings that grow over time
For me, part of that healing came through raising my children.
Nathan and Faith became living reminders that my story wasn’t over.
That God could still bring good from broken places.
I watched them grow into kind, capable, and compassionate individuals—and I knew I hadn’t done it alone.
God had been with me every step of the way.
Healing Is Ongoing
Healing a broken heart isn’t a single moment—it’s a journey.
There are layers to it.
But with God, those layers are gently restored over time.
“The Lord is near to the brokenhearted…” — Psalm 34:18
He meets you in your pain.
He stays with you in the process.
And He leads you into something new.
There Is Still Hope
If you feel broken today, don’t give up.
God is still working.
He can restore what feels lost.
He can bring peace where there was pain.
He can give you a future that looks nothing like your past.
Call on Him. Trust Him. Walk forward in faith.
Because the same God who healed my heart—
can heal yours too.
Reflection
Where do you need healing in your life right now?
What would it look like to invite God into that place?
