Change begins with the choices you make.
Many of those choices are shaped early by the guidance you receive, the environment you grow up in, and the examples set before you.
And when that guidance is missing or broken, the choices you make can lead you down difficult paths.
I know this from experience.
Some of my early decisions led to pain, struggle, and survival. In my early twenties, I found myself with nothing—relying on soup kitchens and city missions in Oakland, California, just to get by.
But one night, everything changed.
One Choice Can Change Everything
At a small city mission in downtown Oakland, I made a decision that would alter the course of my life.
I walked forward and accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior.
At the time, I didn’t fully understand what that meant.
But something shifted.
What I couldn’t see then, I understand now:
God had begun a work in me.
He started renewing my mind, softening my heart, and guiding my steps—one decision at a time.
Small Choices Lead to Big Change
After that moment, I began making different choices.
I enrolled in a Certified Nurse Assistant and Home Health Aide training program. Within months, I found steady work.
At the time, it felt simple:
I needed a job.
But looking back, I can see it was more than that.
God was using those steps to reshape my life.
Transformation Happens Over Time
Working in healthcare changed me.
Caring for others—especially those who were sick, struggling, or vulnerable—taught me something I hadn’t fully understood before:
Compassion.
I began to see people differently.
I learned that pain often shows up as anger.
That behavior is often shaped by suffering.
And that everyone is carrying something you can’t always see.
Over time, my heart began to change.
Where there had been hardness, there was now understanding.
Where there had been judgment, there was now grace.
The Power of Choice
One of the greatest lessons I learned is this:
People always have a choice.
You can’t control others.
You can’t make decisions for them.
But you can choose how you respond, how you grow, and what direction your life takes.
That ability—to choose differently—is something no one can take from you.
It Starts With One Decision
Looking back, I see clearly now:
What felt like small steps were actually part of something bigger.
God was working in my life—healing what was broken and rebuilding what had been lost.
It didn’t happen overnight.
But it started with one choice.
What About You?
What is a better choice you can make today?
It doesn’t have to be big.
Just intentional.
Because change doesn’t begin all at once—it begins with a decision.
And when you continue walking forward, step by step, those choices begin to shape a new life.
A Life Transformed
An abundant life isn’t built on perfection.
It’s built on direction.
When you invite God into your life and begin making better choices, He works in ways you may not immediately see—but over time, the transformation becomes undeniable.
So keep going.
Keep choosing.
Keep walking forward in faith.
