Welcome to The Remnants Journal

A faith-based journal for survivors of abuse to reflect, grow in faith, and discover hope through personal stories, life lessons, reflective writing, and creative living.

There are seasons in life that change us.

Some leave wounds we carry long after the circumstances have passed. Others teach us lessons we could never have learned any other way.

If you’ve come this far, perhaps you’ve already begun to understand your story and take the first steps toward healing. Maybe you’re now asking a different question:

How do I move forward?

The Remnants Journal was created for this part of the journey.

It is a peaceful place to pause, reflect on your story, strengthen your faith, and discover beauty in every season.

I believe healing is a journey of faith, and you are not traveling alone.

Through personal reflections, faith-filled encouragement, life lessons, reflective writing, creative inspiration, and handmade journals, The Remnants Journal offers a place to continue growing beyond the pain of the past.

A Different Place for a Different Season

My former blog, Abuse Journal, documented my journey through the darkness—a time marked by fear, betrayal, loss, heartbreak, grief, and lingering emotional pain.

Those reflections continue to live on through Abuse Journal: Reflections of a Survivor’s Healing Journey, while my memoir, The Secret Darkness: Overcoming Abuse and Finding Freedom, tells the larger story of how God brought me through that journey.

The Remnants Journal is different.

It isn’t about forgetting what happened, pretending the scars aren’t there, or promising that healing will be quick or easy.

Instead, it’s about what happens after you begin to mend the pieces of your life together.

It’s about learning to live beyond the darkness, discovering who you are becoming, and finding beauty in places you once thought were broken beyond repair.

Reflect. Grow. Create.

The Remnants Journal is built around three simple ideas:

Reflect

Make space to honestly consider your experiences, emotions, relationships, faith, and the lessons your journey has taught you.

Sometimes healing begins with a single honest thought or a page filled with truth.

Grow

Strengthen your faith, gain wisdom, and allow God to continue shaping your heart and mind.

Growth doesn’t mean forgetting the past. It means learning from it without allowing it to determine your future.

Create

Give yourself permission to create something new.

Write.

Journal.

Make something beautiful.

Explore your creativity.

Create space for the life you’re still restoring.

Begin Where You Are

There is no perfect way to move through this journey.

Some reflections may come easily. Others may stir emotions you thought were long buried. Give yourself permission to move gently, honestly, and at your own pace.

You don’t have to have everything figured out.

You don’t have to know what the next ten steps look like.

Sometimes you only need to take the next one.

Whether you’re healing from childhood adversity, abuse, domestic violence, loss, or other difficult experiences, I hope The Remnants Journal gives you a peaceful place to pause, reflect, and continue moving forward.

A Note of Hope

Even remnants can become something beautiful.

What was fragmented is not beyond restoration.

What was lost does not have to define everything that comes next.

And the story isn’t over simply because one chapter was painful.

Keep walking.

Keep growing.

Keep believing that something beautiful can still emerge from what remains.

With gentleness and hope,

L.M. CARLETON
